Frazier Life Sciences (FLS) has stacked up another sizable biotech-focused capital commitment, netting more than $1.1 billion for its long-running public fund.
The Palo Alto-based firm launched the fund back in 2021 and has now raised $2.8 billion. The fund focuses on long-term investments in small- and mid-cap public biotech companies and can also be deployed in later-stage private companies through crossover financings, according to a Thursday release.
Over the fund's five years, several of its largest positions have been the target of Big Pharma acquisitions, including Verona Pharma, which Merck & Co. acquired for $10 billion in 2025, and Alpine Immune, which Vertex Pharmaceuticals bought for $4.9 billion in 2024.
“With the continued momentum we have seen from promising clinical trials, FDA approvals and successful commercial launches both within and outside our portfolio, we are excited about the future potential of biotechnology,” FLS managing partner Albert Cha, M.D., Ph.D., said in a release.
FLS has also raised more than $3.6 billion across five dedicated venture funds focused on private early-stage biotechs since 2016, including $1.3 billion raised last year. FLS manages over $6.9 billion in capital across its venture and public funds, and more than 50 FLS portfolio companies have completed IPOs or been acquired since 2015.
“Frazier is committed to funding transformative innovation in life sciences,” said Jamie Brush, M.D., general partner and portfolio manager at FLS. “With the continued backing of our limited partners, we hope to support the development of life-changing new medicines across a wide spectrum of diseases.”
The FLS raise follows yesterday’s news of the closing of Luma Group’s inaugural life sciences venture capital fund, which totaled $410 million. This month has seen a flurry of large raises, with the Fierce Biotech Fundraising Tracker noting nine biotechs that raised a combined total of nearly $1 billion in the first 10 days of September.
