Rib-X gets Phase II results, $25M in financing

It was a good news day at New Haven, CT-based Rib-X Pharmaceuticals. First, the company announced positive Phase II results from a Phase II clinical trial of delafloxacin (RX-3341) for complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI). "Delafloxacin proved to be the more active compound compared to tigecycline when evaluated against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial isolates from patients, including MRSA and quinolone-resistant MRSA and other organisms," President and CEO Susan Froshauer said in a statement. "Additionally, this drug has the potential for IV use in the hospital with an oral step down." The treatment will advance into Phase III trials this year.

Rib-X also secured a $25 million round of financing that will help the company fund ongoing development of its antibiotic pipeline. Warburg Pincus, ABS Ventures, Axiom Ventures, EuclidSR Partners, MedImmune Ventures, Oxford Bioscience Partners, S.R. One, and Vox Equity Partners I all participated in the round.

PLUS: Denmark's Symphogen garnered  €33 million ($44 million) in financing, which will used to support the company's product pipeline of antibody therapeutics. Existing investors participated in the round, which was led by Essex Woodlands Health Ventures. "The current funding will support the advancement of our lead oncology program, Sym004, towards early clinical studies as Symphogen continues to build a competitive oncology franchise," said Kirsten Drejer, CEO of Symphogen. "...Symphogen also plans to broaden our external collaborative activities by engaging in partnership discussions for our anti-RSV and anti-RhD recombinant polyclonal antibody programs." Release

ALSO: Israel's Enzymotec has raised $11 million in Series B-1 funding. The company develops lipid-based biofunctional ingredients. Release

AND: Linkage Biosciences has completed a $2 million Series A financing led by Greenhouse Capital Partners and James R. Fisher, managing member of Fisher Capital. Linkage develops molecular diagnostic products designed to streamline complex genetic testing. The money will be used to continue the development and marketing the company's line of diagnostic products. Release
