CRIX readies Firebird pilot for 2009 launch

The non-profit CRIX International says its finally ready to bring its collaborative platform into operational mode. The platform will allow both public and private users the ability to receive identity assurance certificates, sign and upload documents, and create group workspaces where they can share and exchange data. The platform will include a pilot of the highly anticipated FIREBIRD--or Federal Investigator Registry of Biomedical Information Research Data application. An addition providing secure notification of adverse events is expected later this year.

The FIREBIRD application is designed to enable trial sponsors, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the FDA manage clinical investigator information necessary for the Statement of Investigator form 1572. Now slowed by the paper-based process, FIREBIRD is expected to allow form 1572 to be completed efficiently through a shared registry of investigators. The organization also hopes to expand the application to be able to complete and exchange other documents. To that end, CRIX has brought on ePharmaSolutions to provide development services for the pilot application, as well as provide hosting, security, scaling and technical support.

Other collaborative platforms in the works include a single portal which will allow investigators to access all of their clinical trials, as well as provide a space for members to share a calendar, presentations and meeting minutes.
