The Boston Home to Honor Biogen Idec CEO George Scangos at Gala
The Boston Home's 2012 Innovation & Inspiration Galawill take placeon Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter in South Boston. Senator John Kerry is the Honorary Chair and Maureen Feeney and Bill Walczak are the Gala co-chairs. Tickets are $250 and available at thebostonhome.org.
At the Gala, Biogen Idec's CEO George A. Scangos, Ph.D. will be presented with The Boston Home's Excellence in Care Award for his leadership role in the biotech industry and his commitment to people living with multiple sclerosis.
"Throughout his career, George Scangos has embodied both innovation and care," said Marva Serotkin, President and CEO of The Boston Home. "His leadership at Biogen Idec is making a difference in improving the quality of care for people living with multiple sclerosis."
The Boston Home is a nationally recognized residence and center for care of adults with advanced progressive neurological diseases, primarily multiple sclerosis. With its newly launched Wheelchair Enhancement Center, The Boston Home is at the forefront of using technology to promote independence and improve quality of life for individuals with severe disabilities.
Lynn native George A. Scangos, Ph.D. was appointed CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Biogen Idec in June 2010. Previously he was President and CEO and a director of Exelixis, Inc., President of Bayer Biotechnology and a Professor of Biology at Johns Hopkins University, where he remains an Adjunct Professor. Dr. Scangos holds a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University, a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts, and was a Jane Coffin Childs Post-Doctoral Fellow at Yale University.
Since 1881, The Boston Home has provided specialized clinical care and residential services for adults with progressive neurological diseases, primarily advanced MS.
